🎒 The Back-to-School Struggle in Akwa Ibom State
As schools in Nigeria prepare to resume, thousands of children in Akwa Ibom State face a heartbreaking reality: staying at home simply because their parents cannot afford the basic school requirements.
During our community visits to Ikot Ekpene, Uyo, Oron, Eket, Abak, Ibeno, Itu, and Mkpat Enin, we discovered a painful truth — many children lack:
School uniforms
Sandals and shoes
School bags
Textbooks and exercise books
Writing materials (pens, pencils, math sets)
For these children, education — which should be every child’s right — has become an unreachable dream.
📚 Why Education Support Is Urgent.
The effects of denying a child education go far beyond the individual:
(1) Illiteracy fuels poverty — without education, families remain trapped in hardship.
(2) Communities suffer — lack of education increases crime, unemployment, and hopelessness.
(3) Nigeria’s future is at risk — without educated children, we lose potential leaders, doctors, teachers, and innovators.
